Chinchilla Care question by Girly Girl 4 Ever: Chinchilla Care Schedule?
I have a chinchilla and i need a schedule for when to care for him. I need to change his cage bedding weekly Feed him and water him daily give him hay and dust. I need you to make me a schedule of when and how many times a day i should do this. Please answer only if you know about chinchillas.
Ps ifyou need to know i get up areound 6 45ish and get home from school at 4 and go to bed at 9

Monday-
6:45am- check water bottle, feed
When you get home-clean cage, play time, sand bath

Tuesday-Sunday- check water bottle, feed in morning

playtime at least every other day for as long as you can without stressing your chinchilla out

If you can i would recommend getting a little corner litter box filled with bedding ins ted of having the whole cage bedded it makes for really easy cleaning. You will be able to change the litter box whenever it is dirty and just the whole cage maybe a little over each week.

Good Luck, Chinchillas are great Ive had mine for 5 years and never had a problem. Just play with him/ her much as you can to keep them social

People keep bringing us their pets they can no longer take care of, and I simply don’t want to believe that birds like being in cages, even if they’ve been inside them all their lives – but maybe I’ve got it all wrong? Can you explain the psyche of birds to me? I really would like to know one way or another, and make those birds happy, even if it means releasing them into a big aviary or something that I may yet have to build. Thank you.

i think of a bird kept by humans as being in a cage to protect it (i.e. when there is no one home:so it doesnt eat something bad or put its beak in a socket)
I babysit my friends bird all the time and let it out to run around whenever I am in the room and can keep an eye on it. He’s very curious so I have to watch him closely!

I would start with a good basic book about chinchillas, you will also need the dust they use to bathe in. Make sure you have a place that is consistently the correct temperature, as well. Also, look on the internet for forums and yahoo groups where you can ask questions, and get all kinds of help from people with experience.
