Ferrets As Pets – Ferrets Can Make Awesome Pets?
If you own a ferret or are thinking of you need to know how to care for them first.
Here are some ferret tips and info about them…
Ferrets need to eat foods with good protein sources and low fat, like poultry and meats. Foods that are high in carbs and sugar is a no no for pet ferrets as these foods cause health problems for them. Don’t feed your ferrets food that is made for other pets.
Water is crucial for them as water has many benefits.
You can give this to them in the form of a bottle or a bowl as they too get dehydrated.
Your pet ferret should also have a roomy cage to stay in.
An ideal size of cage would be 18 inches wide both ways and about 30 inches high.
If you want a cool cage for your ferrets try a multi level cage, they’ll have more fun in them. Escape proof their cage otherwise they’ll escape when your not home.
Ferrets also love to play.
So make sure you provide them with toys. You should make sure that these can withstand their razor sharp teeth because they may swallow it. Exercising your ferret could consist of taking them out for a walk. There is special leads for ferrets that will help with this.
When they are not in a cage, make sure you keep an eye on them.
This way your pet ferret has less chance of escaping your home, chewing cords and munching on small objects that they might swallow.
Toilet training the ferret is recommended to avoid stained carpet.
You can do so by buying or making a litter box and then putting some waste there so it knows that this is the place to go when they have to answer nature’s call.
When they do what you want, you should provide them with a reward.
Teach them to do tricks using this same rewarding technique.
If they take off on you, a squeeky toy can be used to teach them to come back. Other tricks which are also taught to dogs are fetch, play dead or roll over.
Baby ferrets can have kitten food for their first few years before having proper ferret foods.
This should be done slowly as they grow older you can start adding additional items like meat or poultry bones and snacks like cereals, fruits and vegetables in moderation.
Make sure you take your ferret to the vet for check-ups regularly.
States that permit you to have one expect you to have it vaccinated once a year.
Caring for your ferrets will provide you with a lot of enjoyment for years to come. These tips will help you deal with your pet ferret. Who knows? You may get more as you’ll enjoy watching them do the funny stuff that ferrets do. If your looking for a quiet, small pet you’ll have a lot of fun having ferrets as pets.
Ferrets can make cool pets! Take care of them as you do for any other pet.
